Thad, Thad, Thad, been awhile since we blogged, I thought the bone I threw you mellowed you out, guess not. You conveniently forgot to mention that OSU also signed the top player from Oklahoma, if I'm not mistaken Oklahoma is still a state and is part of the US. Have you looked at OSU's roster lately, last I looked 5 of the 7 are "our children".
Still upset that recruiting isn't going your way? Why blame every school and coaching staff that recruits and signs a foreign player, do you honestly think they are lazy? Wouldn't the lazy thing be to look at the rankings and just recruit from that? Ever considered that when a coach signs one of "our children" a parent usually comes along as a packaged deal, who in the world wants to deal with that problem?
And what about this "our money" thing? Are you a member of the POSSE?
Have you ever seen Janson play? Maybe you should hold judgement until you do, she is going to be another Headwall.
Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving, don't eat any foreign turkeys!!!

This seems like the perfect time for Holder to give her a promotion to another university. She is a wonderful person. You can’t make a team be successful by yelling at them. You have to be positive and encouraging. She is not bringing anybody next year that is great. If Oklahoma State wants to become a power house and be respected by other teams they have to recruit better or teach the people they have. The job at BYU seems like a good option for her. Annie could get closer to her family and be near a place that she would be respected and no in an all man’s world.

From what I have read it appears Young's career as a coach has been scrutinized on this board more than any other coach in women's golf and yet she hasn't been at OSU quite a year yet.
She inherited a team last spring that had 3-seniors and 2-freshmen which left her very little in the cupboard for 2009. It didn't help when one of her returning players turned pro and an incoming FR came to school with a surprise, her mother attached, not a situation any coach would want to deal with. On top of that when the Iceland girl arrived at school this fall it was detemrined that she was ineligible due to a few NCAA rules she had violated over the summer. Young has had to deal with all of this with a team of 1-SO. and 5-FR as well as a tough schedule.
I've read on this board where OSU has been critized for not recruiting girls within Oklahoma, they now have signed the top player in the state. OSU has always had good results with their Sweden connection and I suspect the new girl will be the same. They are building a solid foundation with current players, Hedwall and Park and from what I've seen the Iceland girl has ability. Rah qualified for the Futures tour so I assume she will turn pro after the year but they have a solid base without her.
Though I haven't seen the team play at a tournament I've seen Young around the girls at Karsten Creek, she is a good coach who is being mentored by McGraw, she may lack in coaching experience but it appears to me she makes up for it in golfing experience. From what I've seen she is very positive with the girls. I know a few of the folks around the program, they are happy to have her.
I dont' think you can judge her as a coach until her first recruiting class graduates. I'm sure BYU is a good job but certainly it is not at the same level of OSU, I can't imagine Young wanting to leave and Holder, having been a young inexperienced coach himself, knows what she is going through. I don't see her going anywhere.

To touch on the last post, without straying too far from the intent, recruiting seems to be very subjective, like for instance trying to determine who might make it in law school on the basis of a test score. I am sure when Annika was recruited to Arizona, she wasn't projected to be the best playey ever at the professional level.
It is all a guess at the end of the day. Maybe the best player in OK for the past few years has not been very good, I am sure somebody will me otherwise, but subjective determinations are always easier in hindsight.
Furthermore, I don't care where you're from, you move up and stay at OK State not BYU, no disrepsect to BYU.

Yes, recruiting is very subjective but as Coach Young states, "Josephine is a top-notch player out of Europe and someone that can have a tremendous impact on our program," And she has competed in three AJGA events. Lets look at the three events.
1. 79-83=162, +23 from 1st, 72 out of 79
2. 80-76-81=237, +24 from 1st, 27 out of 30
3. 78-85-83=246, +33 from 1st, 28 out of 30
I would believe OSU could do better than this. Also, why sell it as something great? Couldn't find a US girl better than this? Try looking.

Ok, time to weigh in , because most talking on this subject have little , or no personal knowledge on the subject. First, Ok state had a bad rep for not recruiting Oklahoma girls, because over the last 5 years, 4 legitimate top ranked players were not recruited. all 4 were in the top 50 in the polo rankings, and had great success on the AJGA. They all were recruited by many schools, but not by Ok State. They signed with 2- Arkansas, 1- Washington, and 1- Texas A&M . That being , said, Annie young had nothing to do with that, and has recruited Jade Staggs, who, while she has not had the same AJGA success as the aforementioned 4 Oklahoma girls, is extremely athletic, and should continue to improve. Also, Ok state has had success with foreign players, so why not keep them in the mix?

Here's a question no one has asked... Why would Young, who was recruited by BYU as a player and turned them down, now decide to go there? How many of you have taken jobs away from where you grew up and found yourself perfectly happy? Mark my words "She's Staying!"
Thad1357 do you look at Els, Goosen, Ochoa and the many other foreigners that play on "our tours" and say that they are stealing "our money" from "our players"? Have all your car come out of the Detroit 3? Do you only buy American products? I'm sorry that you feel like OSU has snubbed US players, but the way I look at it 5 out of 7 is a pretty good ratio.
I'm sticking up for Young because I know her and believe that in the long run she is the woman for the job. I'm guessing that your dislike for her and the OSU program stems from you believing that either you or someone you know got snubbed. If I'm wrong, then tell me I'm wrong. It's just funny how everyone wants to throw mud and act like they're doing it for the greater good of college sports, when we're really just jealous we don't have their jobs!

She would go to BYU because of her faith to the Mormon Church. This would help her get to a higher part of heaven. It would come down to her values. Her husband is a related to the people who founded Brigham Young University. Annie Young said this in an interview a few years ago while out on tour as well as Oklahoma State when she was interviewed for the first time. Clearly it is close to her heart. She is getting beat up at Oklahoma State and wants a way out. Her players do not like her but put up a smile and deal with her. She wants to get back to a place where her family is along with following her Mormon faith.

wow BYU dont even know what to say to that one. BYstandard I would say when someone makes the comment about foreign players coming to american colleges and "taking our money" what they mean is the tax money that has come from the state's citizens that eitger directly or indirectly pay for the scholarships. Not saying the statement is right or wrong just that I dont think your analogies about the tours or the cars makes sense in the situation
