ASU has 3 returning players - Ciganda, Sweeney & Molinaro.

Luellen was probably hoping her new Freshman recruit Laura Blanco would have the SAT scores needed to start in the Fall, but maybe not? as there's no mention of her so far, and they usually go into print with news of recruits.

When the "invitation" was accepted she would not have known that Jennifer Johnson was turning pro so there would not have been an issue about fielding a team at the event.

Quite bizarre that one of the top women's college programs is having to hold an open day for walkons to try and make up her roster.  Would there be any players enrolled at ASU of the caliber she demands?  You'd think anyone who was a half decent golfer would already be sorted by now at the college of their choice.

Still it does seem unfair that ASU will take a "team" spot at the Fall Preview which would have been worthy of any number of others who missed out.

The Fall Preview has no affiliation with the NGCA or the NCAA. It is simply a tournament the host institution puts on in the fall at the site of the NCAA Championship that is to be played that next spring. The women's event has no sponsor.

What does that mean ... simply put: the host can invite any team they like to play in the event. The host team does not even have to host the event if they choose not to.

On the men's side PING and Golfweek sponsor the event and their is criteria used to get invited. Top 10 team in the final Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, the next best teams that finish well at NCAAs, the host school gets a spot if not already in the field and then often you will see a few sponsor's exemptions - the women do not have this and the host coach can do whatever thy like.

In the past few years, the NGCA board has provided a suggested way of inviting teams, but it is just merely a suggestion. That would be for a coach or school that does not want to set their own guidelines and wants to have something simple and easy to fall back on.

Obviously Texas A&M has decided to do what they want and they should be allowed to do that - afterall, they are using this event in place of their normal regular season event the MoMorial.

What they should have done is just keep it named that - nothing says you have to have it called Fall Preview. Teams will still come because it is the course that will be played that next spring to determine the champion.

I am not taking a side here - just trying to clear up exactly what the Fall Preview is on the women's side.

Lance,

You say, "In the past few years, the NGCA board has provided a suggested way of inviting teams."  What has been the suggested way?

I am not exactly sure as to the specifics, but something like host team, top 10 in both rankings and next best finishers at NCAA Championship.

But, like I said before - there is no financial aid from NGCA or NCAA and there is no obligation to even host a fall preview.

In that case the event should never be called the "NCAA Fall Preview".

I think because it is played on the same site as the championship - it welcomes that name. However, there is no affiliation with the NCAA and see your point.

I am not certain, but I think at times host schools have simply called this event the Fall Preview and left out NCAA - Not 100% sure.

How do you leave the Cowgirls out of the mix when they finished in the top-10 at the NC? Can't wait for the conference championship next spring, I'm sure this will not be forgotten!

Do you know for certain that they were invited Pete?  Teams often turn down the invitation for a variety of reasons.

Here comes the Fall Season!  Browsing some of the school websites looking at Fall schedules, Arizona is heading east for the Topy Cup while OSU has this date open on their schedule.  Uh, I don't think they would turn down an invitation just to stay home and practice.  Looks like Pistol has a point.

Trelle did not invite Annie. Created some bad blood. Hope the Pokes take it to them.
